After a fire in an attic apartment in Sontra (Werra-Meißner district), specialists from the Hessian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) have now determined the cause of the fire. As the police in Eschwege announced on Tuesday, the fire was caused by a technical defect in a power strip. This was overloaded due to several electrical devices.

The victim rescued from the burning apartment by emergency services on Sunday has not yet been definitively identified, according to police. The cause of death is also still unclear. The public prosecutor's office has ordered an autopsy.
