- After 14 years of marriage, Maria Hof-Riesch
Three-time Alpine Olympic champion Maria Höfl-Riesch and her husband Marcus Höfl have separated after 13 years of marriage. The 39-year-old announced this on social media.
"After careful consideration and with heavy hearts, we have decided to go our separate ways in the future. Unfortunately, our lives have developed in different directions, but we will remain connected both professionally and friendship-wise," Höfl-Riesch wrote on behalf of both. "We had wonderful times together and will always cherish these memories." Marcus Höfl (50) shared the post on his own social media pages.
The two-time world champion and her husband made their love public in the spring of 2010. They had previously met on a business level as he became her manager. The renowned sports manager had also advised the late football legend Franz Beckenbauer and counts basketball world champion Dennis Schröder among his clients.
Two days after the civil ceremony in Höfl-Riesch's hometown of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the couple celebrated their church wedding on April 16, 2011, in Going at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser, with around 200 invited guests - including Beckenbauer and other famous sports figures.
Together, they experienced Höfl-Riesch's sporting triumphs: her Olympic victories in 2010 in Vancouver (Super Combined and Slalom) and 2014 in Sochi (Super Combined), as well as her 2013 World Championship gold (Super Combined). With ten Olympic and World Championship medals, Höfl-Riesch is the most successful German ski racer of all time.
"Despite the separation, their professional relationship and friendship remain strong, as they have both achieved successful careers in their respective fields."
"There has been a shift in their personal lives, leading to the end of their marriage, but they continue to share a deep respect and appreciation for each other's achievements in their relationship as partners."
