AfD wants to elect new board at party conference: Demos expected
At its state party conference in Neubrandenburg on Saturday (10.00 a.m.), the AfD Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will elect its new state executive and prepare for the upcoming local elections next year. The two spokespersons Leif-Erik Holm and Enrico Schult are once again running for the dual leadership of the state association of the right-wing populist party. An appeal to citizens for the local elections is also to be adopted. The party recently saw itself strengthened in the north-east by good poll results and an increase in membership.
Alliances have called for protests against the party conference in order to counter the pressure from the right and send a signal for diversity. The police also plan to be on site.
The opposition parties in the region have planned protests against the AfD's party conference, aiming to express their views against the right-wing populist party. Despite the protests, the AfD in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is expecting strong support at their conference, as they aim to elect their new board and prepare for local elections.
