Process - AfD fails with lawsuit on police training
Hessian AfD members of the state parliament have failed with their constitutional complaint in connection with police training in the state before the State Court. This was announced by the court in Wiesbaden on Tuesday. The case concerns the state law passed in 2021 to establish the Hessian University for Public Management and Security, which offers courses for police and administrative professions.
The AfD had criticized in an application for a review of the law that the law was formally unconstitutional in view of the former corona restrictions in the state parliament. The state parliament had not been able to deliberate and there had been no public consultation.
The State Court did not follow this argument. The ability to deliberate had been established by the President at the beginning of the plenary sessions and had not been questioned in the further course. Individual visitors and journalists had also been granted access in principle. Under the influence of the coronavirus pandemic, there had been a change in seating arrangements in the state parliament, according to which not all members of parliament could be present in the plenary chamber. The visitors' program was suspended.
According to a court spokeswoman, a decision has not yet been made on another joint complaint by the SPD and FDP opposition in the state parliament regarding the law. The SPD and FDP believe that the university's academic freedom is at risk.
