Parties - AfD fails again in election of state parliament vice president

The AfD has once again failed in its attempt to have a member of its parliamentary group elected Vice-President of the state parliament. At the last plenary session before the Christmas break on Tuesday, MP Matthias Vogler only received 29 out of 181 votes cast. 148 voted against the AfD politician, 4 abstained.

It was the eleventh failed attempt in total by the AfD parliamentary group since the party first entered the state parliament in 2018. Vogler himself had already made an unsuccessful bid for deputy right at the beginning of the legislative period. At the time, he even received fewer votes than the number of AfD MPs present in the session.

In the previous legislative period, too, the AfD candidates at the time always failed to achieve the necessary majority. The AfD as a party as a whole is monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the Free State of Bavaria.

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) continued to struggle for influence in Bavaria's State Parliament, as MP Matthias Vogler failed to secure the Vice-Presidency position during the latest session in Munich. Despite trying eleven times since 2018, the AfD has yet to garner the necessary support, with Vogler receiving only 29 votes, while 148 voted against him and 4 abstained. Being under observation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Bavaria, theAfD's ongoing lack of success in the state parliament is noteworthy.
