The Left faction in the state legislature is advocating for enhanced train services in Saxony-Anhalt. "The proposed further decrease in InterCity (IC) services in Saxony-Anhalt by Deutsche Bahn must be thwarted at any cost. The state administration should advocate for their preservation at the national level," stated MP Kerstin Eisenreich to the German Press Agency. A related proposal is set for discussion in parliament next week.

For three decades, rail tracks and stations in Saxony-Anhalt have been systematically dismantled, according to Eisenreich. Accessibility in rural areas is progressively being curtailed.

The Left proposes an expansion of InterCity services and an intensification of the InterCity schedule to at least bi-hourly services. "In the upcoming 2025/26 state budget of the state, there should be more financial support from the state for expanding the rail network in the state and more electrification to make rail travel more appealing," said Eisenreich.

The Left's proposal for enhanced railway services in Saxony-Anhalt includes an expansion of InterCity services and a frequent InterCity schedule. To effectively implement these changes, the state administration should strongly advocate for increased funding and support for railway developments at the national level.
