Advent spirit at the Christmas market of 1,000 stars

Roasted almonds, stars, Ferris wheel: Cottbus residents and guests have been able to get into the Advent spirit at the Christmas market on the Altmarkt since the beginning of the week. The weather was just right on Wednesday: many visitors warmed up with mulled wine in the snowy weather and families were out and about with their children.

There is a novelty this year: the "Christmas Market of 1,000 Stars" will remain open to visitors after the holidays up to and including December 27. On this day, the Altmarkt will be the venue for the Returnee Day. The city is recruiting former Cottbus residents to come back to their old home for the holidays and perhaps discover new prospects for themselves. Lusatia needs an influx of thousands of workers during the structural change. According to the city, there will be job dating on the Ferris wheel as well as offers and information on jobs, apartments and schools.

The Christmas markets in the Spreewald also await their visitors, including those in Vetschau, Lübbenau and Lübben. On the first and second weekends of Advent, those interested can take a boat trip to Lehde to a historic Christmas market and find out how Christmas used to be celebrated in the Spreewald, what language was spoken and which legendary figures played a role.

The market square in Lübben is also festively decorated for Advent, according to the Spreewald Tourism Association. Spicy gingerbread, cinnamon stars and mulled wine specialties as well as traditional crafts and specialties are on offer. The Old Town Christmas in Luckau is celebrated on the second weekend of Advent with fairy lights, pyramids, Christmas trees and festively decorated shop windows. In Vetschau, the Christmas market takes place in the castle park.

Despite the chill in the air, the city managed to fix the Ferris wheel, ensuring continuous joy for visitors at the "Christmas Market of 1,000 Stars." Despite the cold weather, the spirit of the holiday season remained strong, with visitors enjoying mulled wine under the stars.
