Advance booking for new dance festival in Hanover begins
The new dance festival Real Dance in Hanover is getting closer. The first edition of the new festival is planned for 24 to 28 January 2024, with advance ticket sales starting on Friday (24 November), the organizers announced. Festival director Melanie Zimmermann will bring together choreographic perspectives from India, Iran, Austria, Portugal and France to showcase the wealth of different styles and genres such as contemporary dance, hip-hop and voguing. The Real Dance Festival succeeds the Tanztheater International festival, which came to an end in fall 2022 after 38 years.
According to the information provided, the new festival is intended to promote the exchange of both established artists and up-and-coming talent. Performances are planned at the Schauspielhaus, the Ballhof, the Cumberlandsche Bühne and the Kunstverein Hannover. The dancer and choreographer Saïdo Lehlouh will open the festival at the Schauspielhaus with a version of his performance "Apaches" developed for Hanover. One highlight will be the "Cosmic Nights Kiki Ball", a homage to the ballroom culture established in New York at the end of the 1960s.
Festival director and dramaturge Zimmermann worked in film and television before studying cultural and dance studies. Since 2010, she has worked as a dance dramaturge and curator at the Kampnagel venue in Hamburg. In March, she announced: "We will show dance in all its diverse facets."
The Real Dance Festival will take place at various venues in Hanover, including the Schauspielhaus, Ballhof, Cumberlandsche Bühne, and Kunstverein Hannover. Visitors can look forward to a wide range of dance styles and genres, such as contemporary dance, hip-hop, and voguing, showcased during the festival.
Those interested in dance should consider attending the upcoming Real Dance Festival in Hanover, as it promises an exciting mix of performances from established artists and up-and-coming talent in the theater sector.
