Adler Mannheim eliminated from Champions League
Adler Mannheim have missed out on the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The club from the German Ice Hockey League lost the second leg of the round of 16 against Rapperswil-Jona on Tuesday by 1:3 (0:1, 0:1, 1:1). In the first encounter a week ago, the team from Mannheim lost 1:4 in Switzerland.
The visitors from the Swiss canton of St. Gallen took the lead after just two minutes through Gian-Marco Wetter. After Jordan Schroeder made it 2-0 (31'), the round of 16 was decided. Coach Johan Lundskog's team at least managed to tie the score at 1-2 in the third period through Matthias Plachta (45'). Nico Dünner made it 1:3 shortly before the end (59').
Adler Mannheim's disappointment in the Champions League continues, as they were unable to advance past the round of 16 after losing both leg matches against Rapperswil-Jona. Despite a valiant effort in the second match, with Matthias Plachta scoring for Mannheim, the German team ultimately fell short, losing 1:3 and missing out on the chance to compete in the Champions League's quarter-finals.
