- Additional millions for hospitals in Saxony

Saxony's hospitals will receive an additional flat-rate funding of 20 million euros this year. According to the State Ministry of Health in Dresden, the Budget and Finance Committee of the Landtag has approved the corresponding cabinet decision from June. The urgently needed funds will be allocated to the Saxon Reconstruction Bank and then distributed - without the need for a new application.

This will fill gaps caused by massive cost increases in the hospitals' coffers, which cannot be closed by the federal government for the time being, said Social Minister Petra Köpping (SPD). The state government is stepping in to strengthen the liquidity of the institutions. They can use the money at their own discretion for upcoming smaller investments and measures, without the need for a lengthy application and review process.

Hospitals in a difficult situation

According to ministry figures, the economic situation of the hospitals has deteriorated in the last two years due to increased energy prices, wage increases for staff, and persistent falling numbers of patients. "The pending federal hospital reform will not strengthen the houses economically until 2025 at the earliest." The additional funding is intended to stabilize the situation until then. Since the reunification, more than 6.5 billion euros have been invested in the Saxon hospital landscape - the annual flat-rate funding was most recently 75 million euros and the individual funding was 64 million euros.

The additional funding of 20 million euros for Saxony's hospitals will significantly contribute to addressing issues related to health and safety, considering the rising costs and challenges they've been facing. This support is crucial in safeguarding the necessary resources for implementing necessary health and safety measures within the hospitals.
