Addiction counseling project for pregnant women continues

A project for addiction counseling for pregnant women at Jena University Hospital will continue beyond the pilot phase. The hospital has confirmed funding for the "Clean4us" project for 2024, it announced on Friday. The hospital and the city have signed a cooperation agreement to further develop the concept in the future. The project has supported well over 50 women since 2020. The model phase ends on December 31, 2023.

The focus of the project is always on the child's welfare, it said. The aim is for mother and child to be able to stay together. "The risks to the child and mother from substance abuse are far too underestimated. Unfortunately, people rarely talk to those affected about their problems," said project manager Ekkehard Schleußner. The aim of "Clean4us" is to offer individual help and encourage more people to deal openly with addiction problems.

The continuation of the "Clean4us" project at Jena University Hospital will ensure that more women seeking addiction counseling during pregnancy have access to necessary care. Furthermore, it's crucial to note that the project aims to provide drugs rehabilitation services to these women, ensuring a healthier environment for both the mother and the baby.
