- ADAC: Traffic chaos on East German highways remains
The dreaded traffic chaos on the eastern German highways over the last weekend of the summer holidays in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt did not materialize, according to the ADAC. "There are indeed more traffic jams than last weekend, but we can't talk about chaos," a spokesperson for the German Press Agency said. Many vacationers had likely returned earlier.
The automobile club had previously warned, among other things, of longer traffic jams in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia due to holiday return traffic. While the holidays have ended in Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony, and school has already started in Thuringia, many other federal states are still on holiday.
Traffic was most congested on sections of the motorway 4 near Dresden, as well as in the metropolitan areas of Leipzig/Halle and Magdeburg.
Despite the warnings, the traffic chaos on the motorways in Saxony was thankfully avoided. However, traffic jams remain a concern on the highway 4 near Dresden.
