ADAC: Necessary bridge renovation postponed again

According to the ADAC, the renovation of dilapidated highway bridges has been repeatedly postponed in the past for financial reasons. "Now we are paying the price for the fact that the bridges are all starting to crumble at the same time," said Oliver Reidegeld, spokesman for ADAC Hessen-Thüringen.

Traffic - ADAC: Necessary bridge renovation postponed again

According to the ADAC, the renovation of dilapidated highway bridges has been repeatedly postponed in the past for financial reasons. "Now we're paying the price for the fact that the bridges are all starting to crumble at the same time," said Oliver Reidegeld, spokesman for ADAC Hessen-Thüringen.

This Monday, the rebuilt Salzbachtal bridge on the Autobahn 66 in Wiesbaden is to be partially opened to traffic. The important link between the Rheingau and Wiesbaden to Frankfurt was blown up around two years ago. Prior to this, the bearing of a pillar on the southern section of the bridge collapsed in summer 2021. Future important traffic projects in Hesse include nine measures on the Autobahn 45 between the Gambach interchange near Giessen and the state border with North Rhine-Westphalia alone.

Despite the upcoming partial opening of the Salzbachtal bridge for traffic on Monday, the necessary renovation of other dilapidated highway bridges in Hesse, such as the one in Wiesbaden, remains postponed due to financial constraints, as reported by the ADAC. Consequently, this situation has led to numerous highway bridges in Hesse, including those in Wiesbaden, beginning to deteriorate simultaneously.
