ADAC: Fuel on the highway up to 54 cents more expensive

ADAC: Fuel on the highway up to 54 cents more expensive

The ADAC compared the prices at 40 gas stations along the 15 longest motorways with the nearest station that was not directly at the motorway. The price differences were "still significant" - although a bit less in the peak than the previous year.

On the A2 motorway near Hamm, a liter of Diesel cost 50 cents more at the motorway gas station than the one nearby. The difference for E10 was even more noticeable at 54 cents. In the previous year, customers had to pay up to 70 cents more at the station.

The ADAC therefore urges drivers to "urgently" make a detour to the motorway service stations and either fill up beforehand or drive a short distance off the motorway. They can save a lot of money this way: with a fuel filling of 50 liters, for example, they can save around 20 Euros according to the price differences found in the investigation.

A accompanying online survey among over 2000 people showed that this is already being done by 82% of motorway travellers. However, about two thirds of those who fill up at the motorway pump fill up their entire vehicle.

The ADAC conducted the study in April and May 2024 and used data from the Market Transparency Office for Fuels.
