ADAC expects much traffic jam for last weekend of July

On the way home, long travel times should be expected. Among the return travelers, according to reports, there are reportedly many car travelers from Lower Saxony, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and parts of Scandinavia, where school is about to start again.

Patience is required in both directions on all important holiday routes - on Saturdays as well as on Sundays. Those who are flexible should better switch to a travel day from Tuesday to Thursday.

For numerous traffic jams, according to this, day-trippers or impulsive people could cause problems under good weather conditions. Most delays will be at construction sites. Many of them will continue to exist during the summer travel season.

Border controls could reportedly delay the journey by approximately one hour. The focus of controls from the German side, according to ADAC, has been on entry from Austria for years. But controls will also be intensified at the borders to Poland, Czech Republic and Switzerland. Due to the Olympic Summer Games in Paris, which begin on a Friday, travelers to France will be intensely controlled.

  1. Despite the expected long travel times, many residents of Lower Saxony, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, and even parts of Scandinavia, are planning their return journeys over the July weekend.
  2. Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Schleswig-Holstein are also expected to see a significant number of returners during this period.
  3. If you're traveling through Saxony-Anhalt, be prepared for possible delays due to construction sites along your route.
  4. On the July weekend, people from all over Germany, including Bavaria and Lower Saxony, will be heading back home, which could lead to heavy traffic.
  5. If you're planning a trip to Munich from Saxony-Anhalt over the July weekend, expect potential border control delays of around an hour.
  6. In an attempt to avoid the traffic jams in Baden-Württemberg, some travelers are opting for a travel day from Tuesday to Thursday instead.
  7. Scandinavian tourists who have been enjoying their July weekend in places like Saxony-Anhalt will need to return home and face the reported long travel times.
  8. Travelers heading towards Scandinavia, especially from areas like Brandenburg or Hamburg, might also encounter increased border controls due to the Olympic Summer Games in Paris.
