- ADAC expects congestion for holidaymakers returning from holiday
The ADAC expects traffic jams for vacationers returning home this weekend. Due to the regional holiday of Maria Himmelfahrt on Thursday, some car vacationers from Bavaria may already start on Wednesday afternoon. On the holiday itself and also on Friday, it could be quieter than usual on the roads in the Free State, the ADAC announced. The traffic club then expects full motorways again for the weekend. The reason is the approaching end of holidays in several other federal states.
Overall, traffic on the roads will gradually decrease. In Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, it will be busy again in September - with the return traffic in these two states, a spokesperson for ADAC Nordbayern said.
The risk of traffic jams remains in neighboring countries: Particularly, bottlenecks are to be expected on long-distance roads to the Italian, French, and Croatian coasts, as well as on pass roads of the Tauern, Fernpass, Inntal, Brenner, Phyrn, Karawanken, and Gotthard routes. It could also be busy on long-distance roads to Scandinavia, Poland, and the Netherlands in both directions.
Motorists should particularly expect border controls upon entering from Austria, but also at the borders with Poland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and France.
The ADAC recommends, if possible, to travel during the week. It is important to prepare well, check the route before starting, and decide based on the situation whether an alternative route to avoid traffic jams is sensible, the spokesperson for ADAC Nordbayern said.
During the weekend, the ADAC anticipates full motorways again due to the returning holiday-goers from several states. Despite decreasing traffic in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg in September, motorists should be mindful of potential traffic jams during this weekend, especially on long-distance roads to neighboring countries.
