Police operation - Acid attack in Bochum café: one seriously injured
At an acid attack outside a Café in Bochum on a Sunday afternoon, three people were injured, one severely. Police reported that responding emergency personnel also sustained injuries from later coming into contact with the substance. The suspect was reportedly apprehended nearby after the attack, according to a police spokesperson in the evening.
A man had poured an acid-containing liquid over a guest who was sitting at a table, according to a police press release. The victim was severely injured. A woman sitting at the same table and a waitress were also injured.
There is currently no information on the motive of the crime, the spokesperson said. The identity of the suspected perpetrator was not initially disclosed. Six police officers and two firefighters were among those injured in the aftermath of the attack and were also in contact with the substance, a police spokeswoman said. It is still unclear which substance was involved. The man is currently being interrogated, the spokeswoman added in the evening.
A murder commission was established. The crime scene was initially secured, with investigators collecting evidence.
The guests had been drinking coffee and eating cake "quite relaxed" just before the attack, the spokesperson said.
