Crime - Acid attack in Bochum café: Background remains unclear
After the acid attack in a café in Bochum, the police are continuing to investigate the background of the crime. The 43-year-old suspected perpetrator is in custody for attempted murder. He denied the act and remained silent about the accusations, said a police spokeswoman. The man was arrested immediately after the incident on Sunday, after witnesses had pursued him.
During the attack, a 30-year-old Bochum resident, who was sitting at a table as a guest in the café, was doused with highly concentrated sulfuric acid. The man sustained serious injuries. Four or five witnesses to the attack were lightly injured, the spokeswoman said. Six police officers and three paramedics also had to be treated ambulantly because they came into contact with the acid.
The motive and background of the attack are still being investigated, said the police spokeswoman.
The acid attack occurred on a weekend in a café located in Bochum, which is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia. The investigation into the background of the crime, classified as attempted murder, is ongoing due to the perpetrator's silence and denial of involvement. Witnesses significantly contributed to the apprehension of the 43-year-old suspect, as they chased him immediately following the incident.
