- Accused Individuals Capture mistreatment of Refugee
In relation to the reported gang rape of a 30-year-old individual from Iran in Iserlohn, Sauerland region, law enforcement authorities have obtained a video evidence of the crime. This appalling incident was caught on one of the confiscated devices of a suspect and it aligns with the victim's account, according to Michael Burggraf, spokesperson for the Hagen public prosecutor's office. Previously, it was speculated that the perpetrators had recorded the rape with their phones.
Early on a Sunday morning, it's alleged that a group of men attacked, restrained, and collectively sexually assaulted the 34-year-old refugee in an abandoned brewery building in Iserlohn. The attack was seemingly aimed at publicly shaming him. Four suspects, aged 24, 34, 42, and 46, were swiftly apprehended in a nearby forest and have remained in custody since Monday.
Two at large
The search continues for two additional alleged offenders, mentioned the senior public prosecutor. The victim claimed that six men were involved in the attack.
Post the incident, the 30-year-old allegedly shared with investigators that he was a dissenting voice against the political establishment in Iran and was a persecuted refugee. The accused persons told police that they too hailed from Iran, but carried Danish and Dutch citizenship. They have yet to comment on the accusations leveled against them.
Investigations into a potential political motive are ongoing, as this possibility cannot be entirely ruled out. However, a definitive political motive has not been confirmed yet, as the verification of the suspects' statements is still underway, stated the senior public prosecutor. The detainees were devoid of passports during the arrest. Their statements are currently being scrutinized in their respective countries. "This is an ongoing process," said Burggraf.
The two unidentified suspects are believed to have originated from Iran, like the accused ones, according to recent developments in the investigation. In light of the investigations, it has been reported that some of the individuals involved in the incident have dual citizenship, with German roots now being a topic of interest in the case, given that it took place in Germany.
