"Reality is setting in," quoted the "New York Times" from the circle of the US President. According to this, it would not be surprising if Biden supported Vice President Kamala Harris soon, making her the Democratic presidential candidate. However, another person close to the President emphasized that Biden has not decided yet.

News portal Axios reported, citing party representatives, that Biden could withdraw from the presidential race as early as this weekend. The NBC network quoted a Biden confidant with the words: "We are nearing the end."

The US President has been under heavy pressure since his chaotic and disjointed television debate with former President and challenger Donald Trump at the end of June. Doubts about the suitability of the 81-year-old from within his own Democratic Party have grown louder.

Twenty members of Congress have already publicly called on Biden to withdraw from the presidential campaign. Senator Jon Tester from the state of Montana is now the second Democratic senator to join the demands. He believes "that President Biden should not seek another term," Tester stated.

In the past few days, media reports indicated that Democratic Majority Leader in the Senate Chuck Schumer and Democratic Minority Leader in the House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries had met with Biden and warned him of the negative consequences of his candidacy for the Democrats' chances in the election.

Former President Obama reportedly expressed doubts about another bid from Biden to a media outlet. Obama believes Biden's chances of winning have diminished and that the 81-year-old "seriously consider the feasibility of his candidacy," according to the "Washington Post" from Obama's circle. There was no immediate reaction from Obama.

Biden served as Vice President under Obama from 2009 to 2017. Obama still wields significant influence in the Democratic Party and would be the most prominent party figure urging Biden to abandon his candidacy at that time.

So far, Biden, who is currently recovering from a Corona infection at his beach house in the eastern coastal state of Delaware, has stuck to his campaign. His campaign team also confirmed Biden's continued presence in the race for a second term. "He is running for re-election. Unfounded speculation from anonymous sources is not a scoop," campaign manager T.J. Ducklo told the online service X.

Vice President Harris did not comment on the topic in a speech in the hotly contested state of North Carolina. Instead, she described the contrast between Biden and Trump as "day and night" and called the November election "the most consequential and important election of our lives."
