Music - Acclaimed musical premiere in Erfurt
For the first time in a long time, Theater Erfurt has brought a musical back to the stage with Titanic - the audience cheered at the premiere on Saturday. The play by Maury Yeston and Peter Stone, which premiered in 1997, does not tell a fictional love story - unlike the film by James Cameron - but rather the dreams, hopes and worries of the people on board the ship that sank in 1912.
The performance, which features a large ensemble of singers and dancers in a fast-paced performance on stage, is also about faith in technology, decadence, human failure and a three-class society of passengers on the ship.
The musical, for which the ensemble received standing ovations from the audience, will be performed four more times in December alone in Stephan Witzlinger's production. The musical director is Clemens Fieguth.
