Traffic - Accidents on highways and in urban areas in winter weather
Several people were injured in an accident involving three trucks on the Autobahn 1 between the Stuhr and Bremen/Brinkum interchange on Friday. According to the fire department, all the occupants were able to leave the vehicles independently and were taken to hospital. The trucks had collided. The police were initially unable to provide more detailed information about the injured.
The highway route towards Hamburg was temporarily closed. According to a police spokesperson, there were traffic jams for several kilometers. The exact cause of the accident was initially unclear.
There was another accident on the A1 in wintry weather, according to the police. There were also accidents on the Autobahn 28 and Autobahn 29. No further information was initially available.
Snowfall and freezing rain made the road on the Autobahn 27 slippery in parts. According to the police, there were several accidents with considerable material damage. At least one person was slightly injured. Between the Ihlpohl and Schwanewede junctions in the district of Osterholz, an articulated lorry skidded and became wedged between the lanes. The lane in the direction of Bremerhaven was temporarily closed and there were considerable traffic delays.
It also snowed in Bremen and surrounding Lower Saxony on Friday and many roads were slippery. According to the police, there were several weather-related accidents in the city of Bremen. However, no serious accidents had been reported in the city area by early Friday afternoon. Gritting services were on duty.
There were slight delays at Bremen Airport due to the winter weather. Runways first had to be cleared of snow and ice. There were no major problems, according to an airport spokeswoman.
