Traffic - Accident involving duck transport: several animals dead
According to initial reports, a transport truck came into contact with a truck during overtaking in the night on a Friday. Both drivers ended up on the shoulder as a result. The driver of the livestock transport reportedly noticed the situation too late, according to police, and drove to the scene of the accident. As a result of the collision, livestock transport boxes were left on the shoulder.
Emergency services took the 58-year-old man to a hospital. A 25-year-old passenger from the transport truck, who had previously made contact with the truck, sustained light injuries.
The remaining animals were loaded into their boxes and transported away, with the veterinary office also involved. At first, it was not known how many animals were on board. All three vehicles were no longer roadworthy and were towed away. The autobahn was closed in the direction of Berlin for three hours due to the recovery efforts.
The collision involving the transport and another truck led to several animal transport boxes being left on the shoulder of the autobahn near Möckern, Saxony-Anhalt. Police investigations suggested that the driver of the livestock transport failed to prevent the collision due to late notice. Additional traffic accidents were reported in the area due to the resulting traffic disruption and police presence.
