Rheinberg - Accident driver flees up a tree

After a traffic accident on the Niederrhein, a man hid on a tree near the police. The officers were alerted on a Monday due to a 57-year-old man crashing into the guardrail on Autobahn 57 in Rheinberg. However, there was no trace of the driver at the accident scene.

One of the officers looked up higher, according to police reports, and found something: Up in the tree sat the man and refused to come down. Eventually, he gave in and climbed down to the officers. They found out that the 57-year-old was drunk and didn't have a driver's license. He had also acted aggressively and was therefore handcuffed. He was taken to the police station for a blood draw.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, specifically in the Lower Rhine area, the incident took place on Autobahn 57. The traffic accident resulted in the man's vehicle colliding with the guardrail in Rheinberg. Despite the traffic accident, the North Rhine-Westphalia police had a challenging time locating the driver.
