Accident at level crossing: train and van collide
A van has collided with a train at a level crossing near Mindelheim (Unterallgäu district). The 30-year-old driver of the van was slightly injured in the accident on Friday morning, according to the police. He was taken to hospital.
Although the driver of the train braked, a collision could no longer be avoided, they said. The van hit the left side of the train. According to the police, the level crossing is not secured by barriers.
According to the police, the damage to the van and the train amounted to around 40,000 euros. The train line between Mindelheim and Pfaffenhausen had to remain closed for a good two hours on Friday morning. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the 30-year-old for endangering rail traffic.
The incident occurred in Swabia, specifically near Mindelheim, which is part of the Unterallgäu district. Despite the driver of the train applying the brakes, the high speed of traffic contributed to the accident involving the van.
