A wanted fugitive is still on the run. Over a month has passed since the 26-year-old escaped from the prison facilities in Moringen, Lower Saxony (district of Northeim), and authorities have yet to find any trace of him. "The investigation into the missing individual is ongoing at full force," stated a representative from the Justice Ministry.
Officials are actively exploring any viable leads. Additional information regarding the investigation was not disclosed, due to strategic purposes. The public remains safe from any potential harm caused by the escapee. Mental health and substance abuse treatment is provided for criminals, as mandated by the court.
The individual is suspected to have fled from the mental health facility close to Göttingen by using a fellow patient's identification to access the double doors. Prior to his escape, he had been housed in a more secure, isolated unit due to a previous escape attempt.
A getaway vehicle was reportedly waiting for him, and he was not properly guarded on the day of his escape, according to the Justice Ministry. Consequently, the entrance area has been fortified with barbed wire, among other modifications. Further actions are under consideration.
The 26-year-old was convicted of committing armed robbery at a betting shop in Hannover, and his sentence was four years and six months in prison. He had been imprisoned at the mental health facility in Moringen since November 2020, as per the Lower Saxony Justice Ministry.
The authorities were put on high alert due to the fugitive's history of escape attempts. In light of the emergency situation, additional security measures have been implemented at the mental health facility.
