Rainy road - A9 closed for hours after accident - child severely injured
At a severe accident on the A9 motorway near Brehna (Anhalt-Bitterfeld district), two people were severely injured, among them a ten-year-old child. According to the police, two drivers lost control of their vehicles on the rainy road in quick succession. First, a 39-year-old woman from Wittenberg collided with the guardrail with her car. A 55-year-old man from Dessau-Roßlau also lost control, causing his car to collide with a third vehicle before hitting the car of the 39-year-old woman. A fourth car was damaged by flying debris and vehicle parts.
Two people were severely injured in the accident according to police reports: the 55-year-old driver and the ten-year-old child, who were in the car of the 39-year-old woman. A total of six people were injured in the accident. The A9 was closed in the direction of Berlin for five hours to carry out rescue efforts and clean the road.
Due to the closure of the A9, traffic in Saxony-Anhalt was significantly affected for several hours. The rainy conditions likely contributed to the series of accidents on the highway. The police from Saxony-Anhalt-Bitterfeld were involved in managing the aftermath of the accidents. The 55-year-old driver and the young child were airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries. Witnesses reported seeing debris flying off damaged vehicles, potentially posing a danger to other motorists. An automatic traffic control system alerted authorities to the accident, allowing for a swift response.
