Following a truck accident with three injuries, the highway 38 between Bleicherode and Nordhausen in the direction of Leipzig will remain closed for several hours. The recovery of the three trucks is proving difficult, said a police spokesman on Thursday morning. It will probably be at least until midday before the route between the Großwechsungen and Nordhausen-West junctions can be reopened. Traffic is being diverted. Heavy equipment is being used.

According to the police, a 64-year-old truck driver had overlooked the end of a traffic jam in the early hours of the morning and crashed into the trucks in front of him. The man was trapped in the cab and was taken to hospital seriously injured. In addition, one other person was seriously injured and one was slightly injured.
