A3-lockdown lifted earlier

Drivers in the Ruhr area can breathe a sigh of relief - at least around Duisburg: The full closure of A3 at Kaiserberg interchange has been ended earlier than planned.

More than expected, the closure of A3 motorway between Autobahnkreuz Duisburg-Kaiserberg and Autobahnkreuz Oberhausen-West has been lifted: Traffic is flowing again in both directions, as the Federal Autobahn GmbH announced in the evening. Initially, only the Cologne-bound direction was reopened. Originally, the motorway was supposed to be closed until 5.00 am on Monday morning.

During the closure, steel girders were to be installed at the Kaiserberg interchange for a new A3 bridge over Deutsche Bahn railway tracks. The work is part of the complete renovation of the interchange.

At the interchange in Duisburg, several important traffic arteries intersect - both the Autobahns A3 and A40 as well as railway lines that cross the Autobahn routes.

To make the interchange future-proof, all tracks, bridges, and ramps are being renewed. In addition, each autobahn will receive an additional lane in each direction. This will help ease traffic congestion at the congestion-prone interchange.

The closure disrupted traffic in the Ruhr Area, specifically at the Motorway interchange in Duisburg, which is a notable node point with both the A3 and A40 Autobahns and railway lines. Despite initial plans for a full locking until Monday morning, the closure at Emperor's Mountain interchange, specifically between Autobahnkreuz Duisburg-Kaiserberg and Autobahnkreuz Oberhausen-West, was lifted earlier than expected. The renovation work, including installing new steel girders and full renovation of the tracks, bridges, and ramps at the interchange, will contribute to reducing traffic congestion in North Rhine-Westphalia in the future.
