Traffic - A3 closed for hours after accident - four injured
After a car accident with a seriously injured person, Autobahn 3 towards Cologne between Langenfeld (Mettmann district) was closed until the morning. The closure was lifted at around 10:40 am after the removal of the debris, a police spokesperson said. He spoke of a "gigantic debris field". According to the fire department, there were four people injured in total, one seriously and three lightly.
In the early morning hours, two cars had reportedly collided, causing one of them to lose its engine block. A third car, coming from behind, ran over the car part and overturned, the spokesperson added. The cause of the accident was still unclear. Numerous debris lay on the road. A rescue vehicle was damaged by the debris, causing a flat tire, and it could no longer continue moving.
