Traffic - A2: Truck with chicken manure crashes down an embankment
A truck loaded with 23 tons of chicken manure caused a closure in the direction of Hanover on the Autobahn 2 in East Westphalia on Monday night. According to the police, the van from the western Münsterland region broke through the central crash barrier, presumably due to a burst tire, and plunged several meters into the ground. The 36-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The load was spread across a meadow below the scene of the accident.
During the recovery operation, the A2 (Oberhausen-Hanover) had to be completely closed in the morning in the direction of Hanover. The police estimate the material damage at over 200,000 euros.

- The police in North Rhine-Westphalia urged motorists to avoid the A2 if possible, as they anticipated further delays due to the cleanup and traffic diversion caused by the incident on the embankment near Porta Westfalica.
- The truck's journey started in the western Münsterland region and was heading towards Hanover, but the unfortunate incident caused a significant disturbance to the usual traffic flow in the area.
- After several hours of blocking the A2, the authorities managed to clear the scene and reopen the motorway, albeit with reduced lanes, advising drivers to exercise caution due to the remnants of the load still present on the roadside.
- Despite the massive weight of the load, no damage to the embankment was reported, as it held firm despite the heavy impact before the truck finally came to a halt.
- According to the authorities, the driver's actions did not appear to be intentional, and police are currently investigating the incident to determine any possible negligence or rash driving as factors leading to the accident.
