A new healthcare initiative commenced in the Cuxhaven region on Wednesday. The Regional Care Center (RVC) in Wurster Nordseeküste will function as the first "Regional Health Partner" for statutory health insurance providers across the country. The practice Gesenhues & Partner in Ochtrup and Gronau (North Rhine-Westphalia) is an additional location. This rural area will deliver medical and nursing care in a distinctive manner.

According to a press release from the Health Insurance Funds, the project will incorporate patients who haven't been receiving traditional medical care previously. Moreover, certain responsibilities will be allocated to qualified non-medical healthcare professionals to alleviate the workload of doctors. The project runs for three years initially, with potential expansions in other federal states set for later.

The elderly, dementia patients, and others with specific needs will receive holistic care. This is determined in collaboration with "Care and Case Managers" and the patients themselves, who establish care objectives. The Care and Case Managers continue to serve as points of contact and coordinate suitable existing support services, such as groceries.

Trained "Non-Medical Practice Assistants" make patient visits at home and in nursing homes. A Telemedicine Backpack is employed, which houses various digital devices like a mobile ECG. The project plans to eventually delegate medical assistant roles with course completion to take on medical tasks. These can involve wound inspections, treatment plan creation, and documenting findings and treatment steps.

"I'm thrilled that we're delivering medicine to people and are leading the way in Lower Saxony," remarked Friedhelm Ottens, the District Council of the Cuxhaven District. With approximately 201,000 residents, the district falls in the larger population sector of Lower Saxony.
