- A teenager allegedly beat the victim with a hammer
A teenager is suspected of assaulting another teenager and his companion in Kohlberg (Esslingen district) using a motorcycle helmet and a hammer, ultimately robbing them. The 17-year-old suspect was arrested and is currently in custody. The 16-year-old victim sustained severe head injuries, according to a police spokesperson. The 17-year-old companion suffered minor injuries.
Investigations are underway for aggravated robbery and attempted murder, police and the prosecutor's office announced. The prosecutor's office believes that potentially life-threatening head injuries were at least recklessly caused during the attack.
The incident occurred at the end of June. The suspect initially approached the victim, then struck him on the head with a motorcycle helmet, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The 17-year-old then struck the victim on the arm with a hammer, causing injury, and also struck the companion on the back with the hammer.
The suspect then snatched the victim's chest pocket and demanded more items. The police spokesperson did not provide a monetary value for the stolen items. Last Tuesday, police searched the suspect's apartment and arrested him. He has been in custody since then.
The case is being handled by the local law enforcement and the Office of the Prosecutor, who are investigating the incident for aggravated robbery and attempted murder. The suspect's actions leading to the victim's severe head injuries are being scrutinized by the Office of the Prosecutor, as they believe these injuries were at least recklessly caused during the attack.
