- A Successful Year for Campact: Combating Far-Right Extremism

Last year, Campaign organization Campact raked in a whopping 16.1 million euros. The significant bulk of this income came from donations and sponsorship contributions, as revealed in Campact's 2023 transparency report, which was shared with the German Press Agency dpa ahead of its release on Monday. The report highlights a notable rise in revenue by approximately 1.9 million euros compared to the previous year, primarily attributable to a surge in individual donations.

Expenditures for 2023 amounted to around 15 million euros. For the first time, Campact allocated more funds to initiatives focusing on democracy and right-wing extremism than to other projects. This shift in focus was announced by a spokesperson from the organization. Although climate protection remains a priority, efforts against right-wing extremism and the safeguarding of democracy have gained significant traction.

"Campact has never enjoyed such widespread support as it does now," stated managing director Astrid Deilmann. The statement underscores the enduring commitment of many individuals to combat right-wing extremism, uphold democracy, and advocate for climate protection.

In 2022, an estimated 89,000 people consistently supported Campact, with an additional 170,000 individuals contributing financially to their campaigns. These initiatives aim to foster a society where every person can lead a fulfilling life, free from harm and with autonomy. For instance, Campact worked to prevent the election of certain AfD politicians, participated in climate protection demonstrations, and supported the prolongation of the 49-euro ticket. Some 1,000 petitions were initiated, while around 3.8 million signatures were collected on the WeAct platform of Campact.

Campact lost its non-profit organization status in 2019, which meant that donors could no longer claim tax deductions for contributions made to the organization. Since then, there has been an additional entity called the Democracy Foundation Campact, which was established in 2019. According to the report, both the foundation and the organization share the same overarching vision.

The Democracy Foundation Campact, established in 2019, operates alongside Campaign organization Campact and shares the same vision as stated in their transparency report. The Commission, overseeing the activities of these entities, commended Campact for their extensive work in combating right-wing extremism, upholding democracy, and advocating for climate protection.
