A 56-year-old fellow from Brandenburg, Germany met an unfortunate end in Austria. His paraglider malfunctioned right after takeoff from Emberger Alm in Carinthia, at an altitude of 1,720 meters. Onlookers stated that the paraglider folded up immediately after launch.
The pilot struggled to activate his backup parachute, but failed, resulting in a plummet from approximately 60 meters onto rugged terrain, as per police reports. Initially tended to by an EMS worker, the severely injured man was airlifted to Lienz Hospital, where he passed away later that night.
Merely a few days prior, Austria witnessed the tragic demise of three individuals in two distinct paragliding mishaps. Among them were a 10-year-old girl and a 55-year-old woman from Germany.
The tragic incident served as a grim reminder of the potential dangers associated with paragliding, with several accidents occurring recently. Despite taking appropriate safety measures, the 56-year-old pilot experienced a fatal accident due to his paraglider malfunctioning.
