Legal Official Tackles Crime and Maintains Order - A schoolgirl has been fatally stabbed, and an 18-year-old is now facing murder charges.
Following the brutal killing of a teenager at a high school in St. Leon-Rot (Rhein-Neckar-District) at the end of January, the local prosecutor's office has filed a charge of murder against an 18-year-old suspect. The young man is said to have launched an unprovoked knife attack on the 18-year-old girl in a school room, repeatedly stabbing her.
"The attack was utterly unexpected for the victim, leading to her inability to defend herself against the assault," announced the Heidelberg prosecutor's office on Wednesday. They further accuse the defendant of causing grievous bodily harm by accident while attempting to flee from authorities in Seesen, Lower Saxony. The Youth Court of the Heidelberg District Court now has the responsibility of determining if the case proceeds to a full trial.
According to the prosecutor's office, the incident on January 25th occurred without any provocation from the victim. The 18-year-old suspect had fled to northern Germany after the girl's death and caused a road accident involving an unrelated vehicle while eluding police. Both the suspect and the driver of the other car suffered injuries.
Investigators had previously hinted at the situation being a 'relationship crime', indicating that the victim and perpetrator were familiar with each other, suggesting it was not a random attack. However, they have not disclosed further details. The term 'relationship crime' implies that the perpetrator and victim were acquainted, hence it was not a random attack.
Prior to this incident, a 15-year-old German pupil had shot and killed a 15-year-old classmate at a special-needs school in Offenburg in November.
