Saxony-Anhalt has approximately 210 churches, and while only a handful are in poor shape or might even be crumbling, significant restoration efforts are needed throughout. Church architect Konstanze Förster-Wetzel stresses this point. Churches can seek restoration financing through their regional church's authorities, where a building committee reviews and suggests which projects should receive funds. Ultimately, the church council approves these decisions.
