A few days ago, Anne Helm and Tobias Schulze were elected as the new leaders of the Left-wing MPs in the Berlin State Parliament. Anne Helm, who was a co-leader before, got 15 out of the 19 votes, while Schulze, the old deputy faction leader, received 16. The faction shared this news with us after their election.
The leadership had planned for Schulze to succeed Carsten Schatz, who decided not to run for re-election. Helm and Schatz had been holding their positions together since 2020. Hendrikje Klein and Niklas Schrader are the newly elected parliamentary business managers. Elif Eralp and Manuela Schmidt, on the other hand, were elected as the deputy faction leaders. The Left Party now has 21 MPs, making them the fourth largest faction in the State Parliament.
