Völklingen: A Town Transformed - A person sustains severe injuries in the blaze at a junkyard.

A severe fire at an auto salvage yard in Völklingen has left someone with serious injuries. The ongoing efforts to contain the blaze in the Luisenthal district are still active, according to the Saarland State Police Department. The fire allegedly started in one of the halls within the scrapyard on Thursday afternoon. Residents living near the incident were initially advised to shutter their windows and doors due to the potential for heavy smoke generation caused by certain materials on the salvage site.

Given the scale of the fire, firefighters may need several hours to completely extinguish it, a law enforcement spokesperson said. Approximately one to two days later, when all areas have cooled down, investigators can then start probing the causes of the blaze. At that time, an accurate estimate of the fire's overall damage will also be possible.
