A number of politicians criticize countrywide policies.
Two more instances of attacks on politicians occurred last Friday. The SPD held a campaign event in Bargteheide, Schleswig-Holstein, named "We're Bringing Down the Price of Doner Kebabs to 3 Euros" and handed out coupons for discounted kebabs. Bengt Bergt, an SPD Bundestag MP, and Fabian Vehlies, an EU candidate, were also present.
At this event, someone threw a firework rocket into a crowd, the party said on Saturday. Bergt almost got hit by the rocket, which exploded a short distance away from him. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The other incident took place in Eisenberg, Thuringia. Steffen Much, the left-wing party's direct and list candidate for the state election, was insulted and attacked in a supermarket, as per party declarations. A man reportedly cursed him without provocation at the cash register and then grabbed him by his shirt. Much escaped unscathed and filed a complaint against the man whom he recognized by name.
Politicians throughout the country have been facing repeated assaults recently. A new state parliament will be elected in Thuringia on September 1st.
