- A newborn colt was discovered in Neuruppin, USA.
In the town of Neuruppin, situated within the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district, a hazardous bee condition known as American Foulbrood has been identified. The district announced this discovery and imposed a safety zone with a minimum radius of one kilometer. Inside this zone, all bee colonies and hives require an immediate inspection for American Foulbrood. Moreover, portable beehives should not be transferred from their current location.
Honey Consumption Remains Unaffected
Furthermore, it's forbidden to remove viable or deceased bees, combs, comb remnants, comb waste, wax, honey, food supplies, beehives, or used apparatus from the ailing beehives. No brand-new bee colonies or bees are allowed within the controlled zone. Despite the bacterial brood disease not posing a threat to humans and mature bees, and the secure consumption of honey and other bee products, reporting is necessary due to its destruction of bee larvae, which may cause the demise of entire colonies. Adult bees won't contract the disease, but they can disseminate it, resulting in widespread bee mortality.
Despite the safety measures in place, other beekeeping activities outside the controlled zone should be carried out with caution. It's important to maintain proper sanitation and equipment cleaning practices to prevent the spread of American Foulbrood to other honeybee colonies.
