Social matters - A new year-round facility for the homeless is now operational.
A former school building on Ohlauer Street in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg now houses an accommodation facility for those in need of assistance. Previously, this facility was accessible through the Berlin Cold Help program from November to April, providing meals and showers in the summer months.
As of Monday, the facility offers year-round support, including multilingual social counseling in partnership with Fixpunkt's drug and addiction help. Regular medical consultations will also be available. "Our aim is to offer people with various issues and addictions, as well as other illnesses, potential solutions to improve their living situations and actively support them," the social administration explained. Individuals seeking protection without substance abuse problems are also encouraged to take advantage of the accommodation.
The project will be funded by the social administration, allocating around 2.7 million euros from the 2024/2025 budget.
