A moment of silence is observed in the Bundestag to honor a slain police officer from Mannheim.

Bas mentioned a "harsh assault" that resulted in the death of a 29-year-old police officer. The attack occurred at a political event as the officer stood up for a cherished aspect of our democracy: free speech. Through the parliament, Bas conveyed her condolences to the family of the deceased.

Speaking on behalf of the Bundestag, she emphasized the significance of all police officers and policewomen who work tirelessly to ensure safety in the country. Focusing on the aftermath of the event, the president urged for a thoughtful discussion on the repercussions of the action.

In light of the peculiarities indicating an Islamist motive behind the attack, Bas highlighted the need for a mature debate and expressed her opinion that each lawmaker holds significant responsibility in how the discourse surrounding the attack unfolds. Moreover, she stressed the importance of respecting differing opinions and engaging in courteous discourse.
