Radical Ideologies - A memorial gathering honors the slain CDU politician Lübcke.

Half a decade ago, a right-wing fanatic by the name of Stephan E. brutally assassinated Kassel's government president, Walter Lübcke. This coming Sunday, a tribute will be held at Kassel's Martin Church (10:30 am) in honor of the fallen CDU politician. The esteemed guest speaker will be the German Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

An approximate figure of 1000 visitors is expected, including the Lübcke family and kin of victims from the right-wing terrorist gang called the National Socialist Underground (NSU), that killed people in Kassel. The Hessian State government, headed by Minister President Boris Rhein (CDU), will also attend. Post the memorial service, a public event showcasing how important democracy is will commence (12:00 pm).

Lübcke's murder occurred at his residence in the northern town of Wolfhagen-Istha very early one morning on June 2nd, 2019. The motive? The perpetrator didn't like the tolerant stance of Lübcke toward asylum policy. Stephan E. is currently serving a life sentence. This heinous act remains the first politically driven murder of a German federal politician by a neo-Nazi inhabitant of the Federal Republic of Germany.

"Open for Diversity" hosted by the Federal President, commemorates Lübcke.
