The well-known cliff in southwestern Norway titled "Pulpit Rock" or "Preikestolen" has become one of Norway's most popular hikes, attracting over 300,000 visitors yearly, as per the nation's tourism website.

Recently, a man in his 40s lost his life at this landmark while hiking alone. Police attorney Nina Thommesen from the Sør-Vest police district confirmed the news, noting that the man's phone and ID were found alongside his body. His identify has not yet been verified, but authorities are "fairly certain" about his identity.

Investigations are being carried out to determine if this incident is a result of a fall accident, with no evidence suggesting any criminal involvement. Two witnesses have been questioned, including one who witnessed the incident unfold.

Preikestolen holds a significant place in Norway's travel scene, being commonly referred to as the nation's most iconic natural landmark. This mystic rock received extra attention after it was featured as a filming location in the 2018 film "Mission: Impossible – Fallout," starring Tom Cruise.

The "Mission Impossible" franchise used the cliff as a stand-in for Kashmir in its action-packed climax where the film's two leading characters plunge off the cliff. For the film's premiere, around 2,000 people ventured 4 kilometres (2.4 miles) to the cliff to see it illuminated by lasers at night.

Tom Cruise appreciated the unusual screening of the movie, describing it as the "most impossible" event for the film. The area's tourism was expected to get a boost from the film's release, the Preikestolen non-profit organization claimed, with the mission to preserve and secure the location for future visitors.
