A left-wing politician was assailed in Thuringia.

In a statement, it was reported that Steffen Much was unharmed after an assault from someone he knew. The Left Party's state branch co-chairman, Christian Schaft, expressed relief over the situation. "I'm glad Steffen Much wasn't physically hurt," Schaft said. "These sorts of insults and attacks aim to scare those who support an open and democratic society," he added. Thuringia is set to elect a new state parliament on September 1st, and there have been numerous instances of attacks against politicians across the nation.

The assault happened in the city of Erfurt, which is located in Thuringia. The National Association issued a statement condemning the attack and expressing concern for Much's safety. The police in Eisenberg are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime due to Much's political affiliations with The Left.
