- A knife-wielding assailant on the A7 stopped by a bullet in the leg.
An Incident on the A7 near Neumünster
A driver who threatened police officers on the A7 near Neumünster with a knife was eventually stopped by a shot to the leg. The 55-year-old had been driving erratically across all lanes around midday, "playing the wild boar," a police spokesperson said. Witnesses reported that he was driving in zigzags and at high speed across all three lanes. Two unmarked police cars were coincidentally traveling in the same direction on the A7 at that time. Before they could stop the 55-year-old, he had reportedly overturned his car and ended up on its roof.
Warning Shot Fails to Deter Attacker
One of the patrol cars then stopped the following traffic. The two officers from the other car tried to help the man. He allegedly climbed out of the car window and onto the road. When the officers identified themselves, the 55-year-old reportedly turned towards them and threatened them with a large knife. He did not comply with orders to drop the knife, nor was he deterred by a warning shot fired into the air, police said. As the man continued to approach the officers with the knife, a targeted shot was fired at his thigh.
Motive for Behavior Unknown
He fell to the ground and was arrested. He was taken to a hospital, where his life was not in danger, police said. The motive for the 55-year-old's actions is still under investigation. He could not be questioned until late afternoon.
The A7 was fully closed between the Neumünster Nord and Neumünster-Mitte exits in the southern direction for several hours, causing significant traffic delays.
The officers referred the case of the aggressive driver on the A7 to the local police station for further investigation. Despite being shot and arrested by the police, the man continued to pose a threat, requiring additional officers to assist in his detainment.
