In the region of Thuringia, the amount of families with kids has risen during the past decade. Data from the Statistical State Office, released on a Thursday prior to International Children's Day on June 1st, indicated that there were 333,000 children under 18 living in 209,000 households. This was a 13.9% increase in the number of minors compared to 2013, as well as a 5% increase in families with minors.
The average number of kids per family in Thuringia has increased from 1.5 to 1.6 minors due to this change. Despite this, the area still falls short of the country's 1.7-minor-per-family average. Over half of the children living there (52.6%) resided with a married couple while 21.2% lived with parents in a civil union. Furthermore, 21.3% of these children had a migratory background, which is significantly lower than the national average of 42.5%.
