The area of Rostock County - A grandmother and mother have been sentenced to suspension for abducting a child.
As a result of a child abduction case, the District Court of Güstrow has given a one-year probation sentence to a grandmother and mother of two boys. This decision was made by the court upon request from the public prosecutor's office during a main hearing on Tuesday. The two defendants - aged 60 and 38 - were absent from the hearing, but were present through their lawyers. The probationary period was set at three years.
In 2019, the women took the boys, who are half-brothers and were then aged nine months and four years old, to Bolivia without the permission of their fathers. Since then, the fathers and their families have been fighting to bring the children back to Germany. The boys finally returned in the summer of 2023. The mothers spent several months in custody in Bolivia. The court's decision is not yet legally binding.
