State Statistical Office - A good 200,000 Christmas trees are imported
More than 203,000 Christmas trees were imported in the southwest for Christmas last year. They had a value of around 2.3 million euros, according to the State Statistical Office on Monday. This was a good 9,000 or 4.2 percent less than the year before. The main foreign supplier was Denmark. According to the evaluation of foreign trade statistics, 83.5 percent of imported Christmas trees came from there. This was followed by Poland (11.2 percent) and the Netherlands (5.0 percent).
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, around 2.5 million Christmas trees are sold in the southwest every year. Around half of the trees come from Baden-Württemberg. These are grown on an area of around 2500 hectares.
But not only trees were imported for the Christmas festivities. According to the figures, around 1800 tons of Christmas tree decorations and Christmas articles were also imported last year. A good 569 tons of Christmas tree lights were also imported. The total value amounted to more than 23 million euros. The majority of the items came from China.
